The Little Things
They say that everyone comes into your life for a reason.
Whether they stay for a long time, or a short time, for a minute or a moment that lasts forever, they can leave teachings that will stay with you for longer than a life-time.
They may teach you things about yourself...like when life hits hard, I only become softer and also... I really like washing dishes.
Maybe they'll teach things about the world around you...like people always change and they can be quite good at saying one thing and then acting in another way. People are confusing but you love them anyway.
They can teach you about the meaning of life...how all that really matters is doing things that make you feel alive, doing things that you love with people you love.
They may play your heart strings. They may colour in your heart. They may teach you how to breathe again when you didn't even realise you were drowning. They may be the wave that pulls you under.
But whatever someone leaves you, it is assured, that every single person you meet will add a colour to the canvas of your life, making the final piece something truly magnificent.
This post is dedicated to the one who taught me something beautiful about life...and that's how it's the little things that really make this life worthwhile and meaningful. This post is for you.
And hopefully all you lovely readers will be able to take something from this post too.
There are so many big grand moments in our lives that take our breathe away. Graduating, getting our dream job, travelling, romancing, growing older, and discovering roads within the world and within ourselves that lead to places most awe-strikingly beautiful.
But there are also a multitude of little moments that occur in every single moment. These are the details which make each of our lives unique and our own.
It's the little things and the little moments that add intricate details of beauty to our lives.
These little moments are the hidden galaxies painted on our canvases. They're the candy floss skies, the dawn awakening of the little birds, the flowering vines that grow in the pavement cracks.
It's the sun breaking through the clouds on the stormiest of days, it's the rainbow shining in your room, the smiles from strangers.
It's falling apart and calling your friend, only sobs escaping your lips - for them to reply, where are you, I'm coming. It's hearing terrible news and having someone make you dinner and hold you tight.
It's going for a run and deciding to spontaneously go for a swim, looking for some sea glass, and waving back to a little girl smiling in her father's arms till she goes out of sight.
It's sitting in a cafe with your friend, on what seems like an ordinary day, and laughing so hard you almost fall off your chair.
It's the quiet moments, where you find peace and safety in the company sitting next to you.
It's giggling uncontrollably after falling down onto soft sheets in a room full on sunlight, while a big pink whirly sculpture outside stands watch over the sea.
It's the holding of a torch while you secretly pick flowers from your neighbor's garden in the dark.
I could go on forever, listing the little moments that delicately soften my heart. I could fill pages of journals with the little moments that are the special memories I will never forget.
Sometimes it may feel like you're stuck in a rut. That nothing really exciting is happening in your life. There are times when all you feel is numb sadness.
But you see - all you have to do is open your eyes, to realise that there is ALWAYS something good happening.
For in every moment, there is a little thing that makes that moment absolutely GOLD.
Look for it.
Hold on to it.
Your heart may feel numb, but it's the little things that will warm you up and make you glow.
Every one comes into your life for a reason and this also means you enter people lives for a reason as well. Make sure you try to leave nothing but love and happiness and lightness. For we are all fragile beings and break easily. Leave good teachings, plant flowers, help don't hurt.
And always remember it isn't the big momentous moments that really count for finding meaning in life - it's these little things of gold that show you heaven can be found. That show you there is always hope. And there is always good. And this is something always worth fighting for.
Because maybe all it comes down to, the thing that makes your heart beat the most, the most beautiful little thing of all - can be as simple as opening a fridge door and seeing a shelf full of spinach.
Thank you for the little things.
